How The Carry is written and checked.

The Carry is an independent editorial publication on Britain's early-stage market, written for the people putting money into it. Readers act on numbers, so the bar for getting them right is higher than it is for most writing on the internet. This page sets out the rules the publication holds itself to.

Sourcing: every figure traces to the record that issued it

Tax rates, scheme limits, deadlines and market statistics are checked against the primary source, GOV.UK, HMRC, the FCA Handbook, the British Business Bank or the named study, on the day they are written, and checked again on the live page after publication. Figures are hyperlinked to the record they come from, so a reader never has to take our word for a number. We do not quote figures from memory, from another outlet's summary, or from a press release without the underlying document.

Where a rule is changing or a consultation is still open, the article says so and is date-stamped. When the outcome lands, the page gets updated, not quietly left behind.

Where AI fits, and where it does not

The Carry uses AI tools the way a newsroom uses researchers: for gathering, cross-checking and first drafts. What it never does is decide what we cover, what we conclude, or what ships. Every figure in every piece is verified by the editor against the primary record, every article is read and edited by the editor before it goes out, and the positions taken are the editor's own. If a piece is wrong, that is on us, not on a tool.

Corrections

Material errors get corrected on the page itself, with the correction noted and dated. If an error went out in the email edition, the correction runs in the next issue. Spotted something wrong? Email editor@thecarry.co.uk; every reply reaches the editor directly and corrections take priority over everything else in the inbox.

Independence and funding

The newsletter is free. The Carry takes no money from the funds, syndicates or investment platforms it covers, holds no carry in any vehicle it writes about, and earns no commission on any deal mentioned. If sponsorship ever appears, it will be clearly labelled as such, visually separate from editorial, and never from a business whose products we cover. Coverage cannot be bought, and that is the point of the publication.

What The Carry is not

The Carry is journalism, not financial advice. Carry Media Ltd is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and nothing we publish is a recommendation to make, hold or sell any investment. Angel investing puts capital at risk. For decisions about your own money, check the current rules at GOV.UK and speak to an FCA-regulated adviser.
